Did you know Herblore isn’t ever considered a profitable skill since the amount of loss one obtains to get 99 in the skill is around 200-300 Million Gp? But if used in specific ways, it can make people very rich. Making (Unf) Potions is the best of these ‘ways’.
The foundation of Herblore is based on Herbs; there are three main ways to obtain them:
Easy Ways to Get OSRS Herbs
- Buying from Players: This is the fastest way to obtain Herbs but is the most expensive. Unlike Farming, which only gets you Grimy Herbs, you can also get Clean Herbs from players.
- Killing Monsters: This is the most beneficial way to obtain herbs. One of the best things to kill for Herbs would be Chaos Druids which can get you an inventory of Herbs in a small period of time, judging by your Combat level. Cannoning Abyssal Spectres in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon can also get you a good amount of Herbs in a short period of time, however quite a bit of money is spent on Prayer Potions and Cannonballs.
- Farming: With farming, one can obtain whichever herb they want to grow if they have the required level and seed to grow it, of course. However, this can be very time consuming, and the amount of time it’ll take you to get enough Herbs to 99 Herblore could virtually get you ten 99’s during such a period.
Amount of Profit
The amount of Profit you can gain from making (Unf) Potions can get you anywhere from about -900k p/h to +2.5m p/h.
However, a huge disadvantage is that the amount of profit you gain completely depends on the price of the Herbs in the Grand Exchange, so it all depends on when you decide to do it. When you get the timing right, the profits are astounding.
Keep in mind though, you might be not able to buy herbs at mid price, so you might be forced to buy them at minimum or a little below mid.
The Formula
NOTE: PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE, AND THE PRICES USED BELOW MAY NOT BE UP-TO-DATE. KWUARMS WILL BE USED AS AN EXAMPLE; ANY OTHER HERB MAY BE USED. Grimy Herbs may be used to maximize profit; however, they will need to be CLEANED.
NOTE: In these calculations prices of Clean Kwuarm and Vial of Water were assumed to be bought at Mid-price. Clean Herbs may even be bought at LOWEST price in the G.E, and their Unfinished Potions sold at Highest. This can make your profit double/triple the amount of what it was when items were bought at Mid-price. Though keep in mind that to do so may require offers to be left over-night or maybe even over a span of two days.
Price of (Unf) Potion – (Price of Clean/Grimy Herb + Price of Vial of Water)
= Profit per potion.
Price of Kwuarm Potion – (Price of Clean Herb + Price of Vial of Water)
= Profit per Kwuarm potion.
6,519 – ( 6,135 + 47 )
= 337 GP profit per Kwuarm Potion.
As one can make 3,000 Unfinished potions every hour the amount of profit gained from Kwuarm Potions per hour, at the moment, is:
337 x 3000
= 1,010,000 GP PER HOUR (With Grimy Herbs you can get around 1.5m profit.)
And if Clean Kwuarms were bought at minimum, and Kwuarm potions sold at highest:
(Vials of Water at lowest as well)
Profit per Kwuarm Potions: 971 GP
Profit per hour:
971 x 3000:
= 2,913,000 GP
*Most profitable Unfinished potion(s) to make
- ASSUMING ALL ITEMS WERE BOUGHT AT MEDIUM PRICE.
- ASSUMING CLEAN HERBS WERE USED.
- HERBS MAY OR MAY NOT BUY AT MEDIUM. THIS, YET AGAIN, IS SOLELY BASED ON THE MARKET AND DEMAND.
Please keep in mind that items are subject to change, so buying a HUGE BULK OF HERBS is not recommended unless you’re willing to wait for them to bounce back up (if you’re unlucky enough to have to sell them when they start crashing). If not, then well done, you!
You have to be careful when toying with the Grand Exchange!
For Higher Leveled Herbalists:
Level 63: Snapdragon Potions:
17,203 – (16,057 + 42) = 1104 GP
For Lower Leveled Herbalists:
Level 30: Ranarr Potions:
8,871 – (8,579 + 42) = 250 GP
Though I said 3k Unfinished potions CAN be made per hour, I’m going to assume you’re a first timer so I guess 2.5k p/h is a more realistic approximation.
Herblore levels 1-30:
Level 22: Harralander Potions:
1,124 – (884 + 42) = 198 GP
Level 30: Ranarr Potions:
8,871 – (8,579 + 42) = 250 GP
Herblore levels 31-50:
Level 45: Irit Potions:
o 3,323 – (3,094 + 42) = 187 GP
Level 50: Avantoe Potions:
5,464 – (5,175 + 42) = 247 GP
Herblore levels 51-99:
Level 55: Kwuarm Potions:
4,699 – (4,314 + 42) = 343 GP
Level 63: Snapdragon Potions:
17,203 – (16,057 + 42) = 1104 GP
Level 66: Cadantine Potions:
3,135 – (2,824 + 42) = 269 GP
Level 69: Lantadyme Potions:
8,452 – (8,071 + 42) = 339 GP
Level 72: Dwarf Weed Potions:
6,872 – (6,420 + 42) = 409 GP
Please understand that I am not capable of updating prices every time there’s a Grand Exchange update.
Requirements:
- Druidic Ritual Quest: It’ll take around 10-15 minutes.
- 63 Herblore is recommended otherwise whatever Herblore level you need to clean the Herb you’re planning to use is fine. Tarromin(Level 12 required) can get you a good profit as well, again, based on the prices on the Grand Exchange.
- You can make 3K! Unfinished Potions per hour. Which means you’ll need just as many Vials of Water. Get a good stock of them from the .. I’ve a 120k Vials of Water, so if you want to buy any, I’m selling them at 48 GP each.
- Herbs are obviously required. You could get Grimy herbs but cleaning them will take some time.
- You must have enough money to buy several thousand of the Herbs you’re planning to use and Vials of Water. The Profit will make up for it, of course.
The Method
We’ll be using Kwuarm’s as an example. NOTE THAT ANY HERB MAY BE USED. MAKE SURE IT DOESN’T GIVE YOU A LOSS BY USING THE CALCULATIONS GIVEN IN THE ABOVE POST.
Obtain Herbs.
- First Method: Buy Clean Kwuarms from the G.E or Players.
- Second Method: Buy Grimy Kwuarms from the G.E. and clean them to maximize profit.
Obtain Vials of Water.
- First Method: Buy Vials of Water from Players or G.E
- Second Method: Buy Vials of Water from NPC’s:
- Third Method: Use Vials on water source. This is HIGHLY unrecommended.
- Fourth Method: Buy Vials and cast Humidify with the Lunar Spellbook.
NPCs that sell Vials of Water:
- East Ardougne General Store.
- Jossik in the Lighthouse(North of Barbarian Assault; Horror From the Deep Quest required)
- Sigmund the Merchant(Relekka; Fremmenik Trials Quest required)
- Shilo General Store(Shilo Fishing Village; Shilo Village Quest needs to be started)
Afterwards, 14 Kwuarms and 14 Vials of Water were withdrawn, used on each other and deposited in the bank.
Vial of Water + Clean Kwuarm = Kwuarm Potion.
- Repeat.
- Sell
Where to carry out the method:
Honestly, it doesn’t really matter; just make sure it takes up to two clicks (Max) to bank. Using a one-click bank is beneficial, yes. But in my opinion, not to SUCH a great extent. Just incase here’s a list of places that I recommend you make Unfinished Herblore potions at.
- Grand Exchange.
- Soul Wars (No randoms).
- Duel Arena.
- Neitiznot Bank (Fremmenik Isles quest started).
- Castle Wars.
- Lumbridge basement chest (Recipe of Disaster quest).
If you’re like me, and are distracted by even the slightest hint of a conversation – I suggest you just try NOT to talk in public at all. If you have any plans of making 3k pots per hour, you’ll require the utmost attention.
Staying at the Grand Exchange is like Camp-money-making, you’re able to stay and make unfinished potions for as long as you want! But there is a very good chance you’re going to lag because of the amount of people that hover there. Keep public OFF if you’re going to make potions here.
