Dungeoneering adds a whole new choice of weapons to the world of Old School RuneScape. No matter how familiar you are with the traditionally used weapons, the weapons of Daemonheim will quickly prove to be very different. A shortsword in OSRS turns out to be a rapier in Dungeoneering, and without hours of experimenting with the unique set of weapons there, it’s impossible to know which is best.
Many players claim that “the spear is the best choice of weapon,” but where is the proof? This guide will explain the best weapons to use in certain situations while Dungeoneering.
Spear
Claimed by most players to be the best weapon, the spear is an excellent choice. Its unique ability to fight in every melee attack style makes it the best weapon for all-around combat. This weapon is often chosen as the “bound” weapon because it fights well in almost any situation. The downside of the spear is that it cannot train any specific skill (attack, strength, defense) but trains all of them equally. Also, it is a two-handed weapon, so a shield cannot be used along with a spear.
2h Sword
The two-handed sword is occasionally used in place of the spear by players who wish to train a specific combat skill, usually strength. It is not quite as well-rounded, though. The 2h sword can use only the “slash” and “crush” attack styles, while the spear includes “stab” in addition to those two.
Maul
The maul is the heaviest and most devastating weapon in all of Daemonheim. It has only one attack style: “crush,” and it is swung at a very slow rate. Nevertheless, it has its area of expertise. Mauls are effective for taking down monsters with heavy armor, such as high-level Forgotten Warriors. It should not be bound due to its limited areas of strength.
Rapier
The rapier is a very fast weapon in comparison to many others. It is best used when the player is surrounded by many low-level monsters. Because of its speed, missing a hit is no big deal, and it can take out swarms of monsters much faster than a slower weapon. Also, a rapier is one-handed, so it can be used in conjunction with a shield.
Shortbow
The shortbow is only powerful when used by a range-based character. If the ranged level is not higher than all of the melee stats, range should not be used. Otherwise, it makes an excellent all-around weapon for rangers. Be careful not to run out of arrows, though.
Magic
Magic has its place, but it is usually not worth the time required to make the required combat runes. Against bosses like Rammernaut and the Bulwark Beast, magic is handy for hitting through the heavy melee armor. Likewise, it is effective against heavily armored Forgotten Warriors.
Every weapon that is used in Daemonheim has a place and time where it is most effective, but for all-around combat, the spear is the most effective choice and is the best weapon to bind.
